Display at Warrnambool Art Gallery
The Warrnambool Fire Brigade and the Warrnambool Art Gallery are working together to put on a display in recognition of the Brigade's 150th Anniversary. The display will run from the 3rd of February to the 17th of March 2013.
There will be both artistic and practical elements to the show. The Gallery has been able to secure several paintings and photos of fire and fire-related scenes, inluding photos by local photographer Simon O'Dwyer, and a painting depicting action on Asw Wednesday by another local artist, Mark Rashleigh.
The Brigade will display some significant artefacts, including a selection of their trophy collection from the late 1800s to early 1900s.
There will be somewhat of a focus on two significant events in the Brigade's and the district's history; the Hotel Mansions Fire (now the Warrnambool Hotel) in 1929, and the Ash Wednesday Fires from 1983. The 30th anniversay of the Ash Wednesday Fires occurs on February 16th 2013.
