3.4C Hino Heavy Tanker

Picture
A primary vehicle in Warrnambool Fire Brigade's fleet is the Hino Ranger Pro 8Z, 3.4C Heavy Tanker.  This is Warrnambool's primary vehicle for bushfire and grassfire response, and is also used for urban incidents including structure fires and motor vehicle accdents.
The 3.4C Tanker carries a crew of 5 Firefighters and has walkways on the rear of the truck to allow crew members unhindered access and room to move while the vehicle is in motion at rural fires.  This is an important feature allowing the truck to be used for fighting running grassfires.
The 3.4 C is powered by an inline 6 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine and has a 6 speed manual transmission.  The firefighting pump is a GAAM Mk 325 single stage centrifugl pump and is rated to deliver 900 litres of water per minute.  Its tank holds 3000 litres of useable firefighting water and a resrve of 750 litres for crew protection.  These tankers are fitted with numerous lockers for stowage on both sides of the truck nd on the top deck.  Warnambool's Tanker carries two sets of breathing apparatus, a high-rise pack for multi-stoery building fires, A and B Class foam and a chainsaw.

The unit is regularly used as the second responding truck behind our pumper, and as the primary vehicle going to fires in the rural areas around Warrnambool, including structure fires.  It has been used at all our recent major structure fires such as Telstra, and has also responded on strike team duty out of the area, including Casterton in December 2012, Kentbruck in January 2013, and Gippsland during the 2009 Black Saturday fires.
